Bowfell is a pyramid-shaped mountain lying at the heart of the English Lake District, in the Southern Fells area. It is the sixth-highest mountain in the Lake District and one of the most popular of the Lake District fells for walkers. It is listed in Alfred Wainwright's 'best half dozen' Lake District fells.

This is the most popular route to Bowfell, starting from the Old Dungeon Ghyll in Great Langdale. The path follows The Band, a prominent ridge, offering stunning views of the Langdale Pikes and the surrounding fells.

Weather in the Lake District can change rapidly, so be prepared for rain and wind even in summer.
The Bad Step on Crinkle Crags can be tricky; an alternative path bypasses it to the right.
Bowfell is known for its stunning views, especially from the summit, where you can see the Scafell range and beyond.
Sturdy walking boots, waterproof clothing, and a map and compass are essential for these routes.
Look out for Herdwick sheep, a breed native to the Lake District, often seen grazing on the fells.
