This route starts from Troutbeck and ascends via the Garburn Pass, offering a more direct approach to Ill Bell. It provides a good mix of terrain and excellent views.
A less trodden path that starts from Mardale Head, taking you over High Street and along the ridge to Ill Bell. This route is more remote and offers a sense of solitude.
Buses run from Windermere to Troutbeck, providing access to the Garburn Pass route. For the Kentmere Horseshoe, buses to Staveley are available, but a taxi or additional walk is needed to reach Kentmere.
